What They're Saying
On the American League:
"The Rays are far and away the best organization in the league from top to bottom, and I think it’s an outlier that they didn’t make it last year. I don’t see Baltimore repeating (see: ridiculous extra-innings win totals), and they should regress to about 85 wins. The Angels have a better offense than anyone in the AL when they’re playing well and I think they can ride that to a pennant."--W. Streit
"A’s go on a massive streak to edge out the M's, Angels, and Rangers in what turns out to be the best division in baseball. Indians, not a suck up, but they took some low risk high reward players. They nose out the Royals. Jays, biggest tossup. The bottom rises to the top, as the Yankees and Sox fight to stay out of the gutter."--P. Mundaden
"Moneyball can’t beat David Price in a 1-game playoff series. Angels ride momentum and beat the Tigers who have been waiting to play (I need some excuse to not pick the Tigers!). He [Mike Trout] will need to play like an MVP for the Angels to make it as far as I have them. Business as usual here. [Justin Verlander] Continues to dominate and carry the Tigers far in the (still weak although definitely better) AL Central."--J. Popp
"Rays. Young pitching dominates over an aging and patchy Yankees team. Boston still expected to be on the downturn. Expect a close race with the Blue Jays (wild card), Yankees, and Orioles. Tigers. Expect a close race with the Royals and White Sox. Cleveland could make a run at the mix, but not likely. Minnesota rounding out the bottom of the division. Angels. Star-studded Halos sack up and play some ball. Texas and Oakland make it interesting, but fall short. Seattle stays home in the rain."--C. Podgorski
"If I get either of my MVP picks right, you owe me $5."--K. Wildey
On the National League:
"Have you actually looked at Washington’s lineup? It’s unbelievable. With Strasburg and Harper both playing full seasons they should be unstoppable, and the back end of their rotation is better than people realize. I like San Francisco, but there’s no reason LA shouldn’t win that division. The Giants need a little more offense. The Reds will benefit from the pick-up of Jack Hannahan, winner of Letters to Pilky’s MVP for the past two seasons, but they win that division by default as opposed to being especially good and won’t do much in the playoffs."--W. Streit
"Giants, dominate the season series against the Dodgers which gives them the division title. Reds, the key in this division is the Buccos end above .500 and have the lead at some point in the season. Braves, Strasburg sadly turns out to be the Oden of baseball."--P. Mundaden
"[Matt] Cain is a Top 5 pitcher, Braves would win a longer series for sure, but Giants find some magic. Again I think it will be a really tight series, but I like the Dodgers to win based on the fact that if their offense is healthy and performing well, I think they have an edge there. Also like the experience factor in Kershaw and Greinke over Strasburg (who could tail off in October with as many innings as he’s getting this year) [Matt Kemp] Gets the award that he should have in 2011. [Stephen Strasburg] has a phenomenal regular season with no innings cap, but burns out in the playoffs. Good thing the Cy Young is just based on regular season accomplishments."--J. Popp
"Bold Prediction: the Pittsburgh Pirates will have a winning record for the first time in 20 years."--T. Williams III
"Only competitor would be Atlanta. Miami and the Mets make a solid push for the middle of the division. Phillies take last, out of principle. Seems all Philly teams have taken to that mentality. St. Louis. The Reds are the only other major contender. Milwaukee takes a downturn from last year. Pittsburgh on the upturn, but take 3rd. Cubs and Houston in the basement. Dodgers. Giants make a valiant run but fall a handful of games short. Arizona closely behind the Giants. Rockies second-to-last, out of principle. San Diego...Spanish for...last. place. forever."--C. Podgorski
On the Fall Classic:
"I think that this series will go at least six games, but being able to run out Strasburg two or three times and Gonzalez/Zimmermann twice each I think they’ll be okay against the Murderer’s Row of the Disneyland Angels, especially because the Angels don’t have the pitching to get them through a series against an offense like the Nationals. As much as I think that the National League is inferior to the American, they do have the advantage in series like this due to a better strategy-based bench and bullpen throughout the season. Nationals in 6."--W. Streit
"Giants over A’s in a series that is delayed due to an earthquake before Game 3. And we party like its 1989 (except the Giants win this time)."--P. Mundaden
"There may have been a motive in my picks to create a Subway Series because I think those are really cool and I think it’s entirely possible this year. Dodgers have the better pitching staff, but Angels have the better offense. Unfortunately for the Angels, it has been a pitching era recently and pitching wins in 6 or 7. Dodgers get their 6th World Series title."--J. Popp
"Nats in 6. Let Teddy run!"--C. Podgorski
